As Christians, we are called to care for the environment and steward God’s creation. The Church of England believes we can play an important role in protecting and restoring the natural world and encourages all churches to become Eco Churches—an initiative that empowers congregations to make practical and meaningful changes in their environmental impact.
The Eco Church programme, led by A Rocha UK, is designed to help churches take action on environmental sustainability. The programme provides a framework to guide churches in making changes that reflect their Christian commitment to the care of the earth and promote sustainable practices within our community.
St Swithin's Church is working towards achieving our Bronze Eco Church award. We are looking at the ways we connect with our environment in the following areas:
- Worship and teaching
- Buildings and energy
- Land and nature
- Community and global engagement
- Lifestyle
We invite members of our church and village community to join us in this endeavour. Our goal is to help create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community, one that is conscious of its ecological footprint and actively takes steps to reduce it.
